They used to be called The Silver Beatles, but now on April 4 1963 they became "real" silver when their second single (Please Please Me) sold more than 250,000 copies.
The silver disk was awarded at a private ceremony at EMI House and The Fab Four performed some songs for the executives.
There are some nice pictures available on the net which show 4 radiant Beatles and a young George Martin in the middle.
