On Monday 21 January 1963, the president of Vee-Jay Records wired the following telegram to lawyer Joe Vigoda:

PLEASE WIRE PUB. INFO ON THE BEATLES RECORD "ASK ME WHY" AND "PLEASE PLEASE ME". WE NEED THE AMERICAN PUBLISHING COMPANY. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE INFO, PLEASE TELL US WHERE WE CAN GET IT. URGENT!
